Sharper scanning, smoother label jobs, and simpler kits

When more than one camera is available, GearScout prefers a rear camera with autofocus and avoids an ultra-wide lens when a better main lens is available. A camera selected manually is remembered, while an unavailable saved camera no longer prevents the scanner from starting.

Supported devices add pinch-to-zoom and on-screen zoom buttons directly over the camera view. Camera switching and the torch remain available when the browser exposes them, and clear permission or startup messages provide a direct way to try again.

Each recognized code now produces a visible success, warning, or error message, with sound and vibration where the device allows them. Duplicate items and codes that are not GearScout labels are called out immediately instead of appearing to scan silently.

The review panel shows when an item is loading, ready, needs attention, or could not be loaded. Failed lookups can be retried or removed, the check-in or check-out mode stays fixed once a batch has started, and final review remains unavailable until every item has resolved safely.

Groups can choose Avery 43801 permanent adhesive sheets, Avery 35523 waterproof laser sheets, or Dymo LabelWriter 1933084 durable rolls. A member with access to edit Group settings selects the default once, and GearScout applies it to both single-item and bulk label exports.

Each PDF uses the layout required by its stock: eight labels on an Avery 43801 letter sheet, ten on an Avery 35523 sheet, or one branded 57 mm × 32 mm Dymo label per page. Print at 100% scale with the matching paper or media size, and use the request link in Group Settings when another printer or stock needs support.

Start a print job from selected inventory or from an individual item record. The preparation page keeps the selected gear together and lets you search for more items, remove anything that does not belong, and choose a separate label quantity for every item.

A live summary shows the number of items, labels, and estimated PDF pages for the group’s preferred format. This makes it easier to catch an incomplete selection or an unexpected page count before generating the print-ready PDF.

The Contained gear section has moved beside the other container settings on an item record, making kit contents easier to find and manage without changing the underlying workflow.

The existing tools still work as before: search by name, category, or tag; add or remove items; see when gear belongs to another container; and open a contained item directly. Checking a parent item in or out also continues to move its contained gear through the same workflow.
